Legacy-Adoration

The Lord is great and certainly worthy of praise! No one can fathom his greatness! One generation will praise your deeds to another, and tell about your mighty acts! I will focus on your honor and majestic splendor, and your amazing deeds! They will proclaim the power of your awesome acts! I will declare your great deeds! They will talk about the fame of your great kindness, and sing about your justice. The Lord is merciful and compassionate; he is patient and demonstrates great loyal love. The Lord is good to all, and has compassion on all he has made. All he has made will give thanks to the Lord. Your loyal followers will praise you. They will proclaim the splendor of your kingdom; they will tell about your power, so that mankind might acknowledge your mighty acts, and the majestic splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an eternal kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The Lord supports all who fall, and lifts up all who are bent over. Everything looks to you in anticipation, and you provide them with food on a regular basis. You open your hand, and fill every living thing with the food they desire. The Lord is just in all his actions, and exhibits love in all he does. The Lord is near to all who cry out to him, all who cry out to him sincerely.

Do you ever imagine your child’s graduation? It might seem like light-years away, but considering the future has an enormous bearing on the present.

  • What scars will they have?
  • What successes will they wear as badges of honor?
  • What will they look like?
  • As they walk, will they meet your gaze with confidence and pride?
  • Will they be convicted of their beliefs and morals?

Although it’s impossible to dictate the future of your child, your prayers will have an impact on the trajectory set for your child’s life. Your beliefs of who God is will make a lasting impression on their lives as well.

In this psalm, the writer celebrates the beauty of continual worship, both in the personal life of the believer and throughout generations. The reason for this worship is founded on the unshakable belief that the Lord is worthy of praise. The writer is intimately aware of the attributes of God; he knows the Lord’s greatness. He is convinced that all honor belongs to the Lord. As he meditates on God’s character, he is ushered into worship.

This psalm delineates an important truth: true worship is focusing on the character of God and praising Him for who He is. While many faith-based songs focus on how God makes us feel, worship stands in stark contrast to our feelings or desires. Worship is a response which happens when we see the Lord and recognize our unworthiness. When we realize that God is infinitely greater and holier and stronger and more righteous than us, we are forced to fall at His feet in worship (Matthew 2:11, Revelation 1:17, Revelation 4:10-11).

As you consider the godly legacy you desire to leave your children, consider how you worship. Do you recognize how completely different the Lord is from you? Are you in awe of His goodness? Then tell your children (Deuteronomy 11:18-19).

Do you fear the Lord? Do you seek wisdom to be added to your child’s life? Then teach your child that the Lord should be feared (Proverbs 9:10-11). In addition to words, however, let your life speak the goodness of God. Let your worship inspire confidence in the Lord that He does hear you and He does listen.

  • The Lord is great, so come to Him with your weaknesses and ask for His strength.
  • The Lord is worthy of praise, so praise Him when He carries you through a dark season.
  • The Lord is merciful, so confess your failures to Him and have confidence that He will give you a fresh start.
  • The Lord supports those who fall, therefore humble yourself before Him and seek His restoration.

Let this psalm remind you of the legacy you seek for your children to carry. As you raise your little one, keep focused on your goal, your prize. Prepare the way for your child as their prayer warrior. This is the legacy you can leave your children.

Therefore be very careful how you live—not as unwise but as wise, taking advantage of every opportunity, because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:15-16).

As you continue in this journey of mothering, be aware of the urgency of your calling. Yours is a valuable mission. The prayers you offer the Lord for your child have enormous weight and value. Make the most of this opportunity.

Your time is short, mama. Redeem it.

Dear Lord God,

Thank you for the way that you have revealed yourself in Scripture, especially in the Psalms. Please help me to worship you for who you are and see you in a proper light. I pray that I will be faithful to serve my child(ren) as a prayer warrior; please equip me for this task. Please remind me often that the days are evil and that my calling is urgent. I pray that our household will be one of generational worship, that one generation will praise your name to another.

Thank you, Father, for this amazing gift you have given me in this child. I thank you and praise you.
